Roswell Park Offers World-Class, and Cutting Edge, Radiation Oncology for Patients
The Radiation Medicine team at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center isn’t resting on the success of its Gamma Knife program, an envelope-pushing procedure that helps nearly 850 patients each year with their tumors and other conditions in the brain.
Roswell Park also offers a high-dose brachytherapy program, along with interoperative brachytherapy, something not available at other hospitals in the Western New York region, says Dheerendra Prasad, MD, MCh, FACRO, Chief of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine.
Additionally, Roswell Park has incorporated the ETHOS adaptive platform to provide precise, high-dose radiation therapy to prostate cancer patients, reducing both the number of treatments needed and the side effects faced by patients.
“But what makes us special is not the machines, it’s our people,” Dr. Prasad says. “We employ clinical medical physicists who are at the top of their game in the world. All of them have PhDs. We employ dosimetrists who are excellent at dose planning and our radiation technologists walk the journey with our patients every day, delivering compassionate care with high efficiency and maintaining precision. We have maintained an impeccable safety record.”
