Cerrene Giordano, MD, believes the future of dermatology involves embracing what artificial intelligence can do to help treat patients with skin cancer.
“Imaging and AI in particular is going to become huge in medicine, says Dr. Giordano, a dermatologist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. “We can use specific devices that are non-invasive to take a look under a patient’s skin, almost similar to how an ultrasound can look at a baby in a pregnant woman and see what’s going on on the inside. This allows us to take a view into the skin to see what might be cancer, what might not be cancer, and also help us to delineate the margin so if there is cancer and someone does need surgery, it allows us a more precise approach so that the surgery is more successful in a shorter period of time with less resources.”
A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and a native of Western New York, Dr. Giordano says she’s excited to join the team at Roswell Park. “I have family members, I know patients, a lot of people who have been personally touched by Roswell Park. I know the impact and the influence Roswell Park has had on the community at large. I’m very confident in the vision and the mission that Roswell Park holds of ultimately trying to reach the goal of no more cancer.”
