The newest member of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s melanoma and sarcoma team considers his appointment a homecoming.
“Doing my fellowship here, I was familiar with the place, but coming back here as a staff physician is a different role,” says Ankit Patel, MD, a surgical oncologist. “It’s amazing to have the amount of resources available to me, all directed toward advanced patient care.”
Dr. Patel trained at what is now Rutgers University and specializes in HIPEC, or hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion, a treatment he will use to help patients with advanced disease and peritoneal surface malignancies in particular.
“We’re able to do things other places just can’t or don’t have the support or resources to do so,” he says.
