I am the medical director for the Department of Radiation Medicine and the director of the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Gamma Knife Center. Every day we're saving brains by changing minds. Roswell Park has had a gamma knife program. For the last 20 years, we have treated more than 7000 patients, and over the course of these 20 years, we have always brought the latest technology to bear on our patients illnesses in the service off. Both are referring physicians, the patients and their families. We feel that this is an investment that is critical. We brought the first gamma knife icon anywhere in a cancer center in the United States to buffalo, and now we're proud to have the lightning treatment planning software that complements the icon and takes it to the next level. We make treatment plants that are not only more capable of saving critical structures but are incredibly conform ALS and can be done with great speed. It also allows us to make multiple treatment scenarios for our patients and compare them in a very rapid manner. In the end, what we achieve is a much more efficient treatment for the patient, which is not only going to be better at controlling the cancer, it will also protect critical structures, will be done with great speed and will be optimized for a patient experience from start to finish that minimizes their stress undergoing the procedure it provides. Incredible opportunities for research were able to compare these outcomes in relationship to plan quality, which also lets us compare and benchmark our work against other centers in the country and in the world. In addition to lightning, we have ancillary software, which allows us to track fibers in the brain when we're treating patients with non cancer conditions like Cramer. And in those patients, we can demonstrate successful sectioning off tremor pathways in the brain following gamma knife radiosurgery and correlated to clinical improvement in the patient's tremor. We could do this for paying conditions like trigeminal neuralgia. Every treatment has a price. We realize that sometimes treatments done for cancer can produce side effects. The software suite includes a package that allows us to analyze the effects of radiation treatments on the brain to satisfactorily distinguished between treatment effect and recurrent tumor, a decision that could be critical in a patient whose memory is not clear in terms of these two conditions, this resolution, the ability to pick up earlier currents and treating, will help us overall control the cancer better. Similarly, identifying a side effect early allows us to treat it and minimize the side effect. And it's neurological complications for the patient. The key takeaways. We have been running an extremely successful gamma knife program, and we continue to reinvested it to bring the latest technology for our patients. And we do it with incredible precision way through it, with great insight, and we constantly improve the quality of our work. The focus of our program has been to treat Onley, the specific cancer and not the rest of the brain, preserving cognition, memory and better quality of life for our patients.
