Meet the Team: James Nguyen, MD

“There are so many advances and exciting research going on that’s changing how we treat patients, making it more effective and safer for our patients,” says James Nguyen, MD, a physician in the Transplant and Cellular Therapy program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Physicians working in cellular therapy are continuing to improve on how these treatments are given to patients, improving outcomes and quality of life, but they’re also working to expand the kinds of disease and disorders for which cellular therapy is a treatment option, Dr. Nguyen says.

“Cellular therapies are not only being used for blood cancers but more solid tumor applications, as well as more gene therapies we’re using outside of cancer, on things like sickle cell disease and autoimmune disease,” he says. “There’s an ever-growing pool of patients we’re able to give these treatments to.”
