From its inception, Roswell Park identified cancer research as a core element of its mission. Since then, groundbreaking research by Roswell scientists has led to greater understanding of the nature of cancer and to major advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Roswell Park has been designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a comprehensive cancer center for more than four decades. Our NCI Cancer Center Support Grant — also referred to as the NCI Core Grant — provides substantial federal funds that are vital to the research programs and scientific infrastructure that define our uniqueness and confirm our status.
At Roswell Park, up to 50% of our patients are eligible to enter clinical trials. When clinical trials identify new and effective treatments, these treatments will eventually become the new standard of care that will be offered to future patients. Today’s treatments were researched by clinical trials in the past.
