Roswell Park Experts Invited to Highlight Latest Research at ASTRO

 

Roswell Park physicians who specialize in radiation therapy will be presenting at this year’s American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting, September 26-30 in Boston.

Two Roswell Park experts will be discussing potentially practice-changing studies:

Eileen Samuel, MD: “Effect of Dose Escalation of Radiotherapy in Relapse/Refractory Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Patients” (Abstract 2858). This work explores whether dose-escalated radiotherapy for relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma was well tolerated by patients and can be a viable strategy to improve outcomes in those patients. “Limited evidence is available on the role and effect of dose-escalation radiotherapy in relapsed and refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma,” Dr. Samuel says. “Our retrospective study can lay the groundwork for a larger prospective trial to prove the benefit of this regimen for the relapsed and refractory patient population.”  The team’s work will be presented Monday, Sept. 28, from 3-4 p.m. in Exhibit Hall A.

Anurag Singh, MD, FASTRO: “Timing and Utility of Repeat Post-Treatment PET/CT in head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma” (Abstract 3627). This research shows that waiting an additional four weeks for post-treatment scans can significantly reduce false positive results, and that anything short of a complete response following a second post-treatment PET scan indicates poor prognosis. “Both of these findings have large implications for practice in head and neck cancers,” says Dr. Singh. This research is scheduled to be presented Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 3:45-5 p.m. in Exhibit Hall A.
